Susan Millard

British author born in Cheshire. She has only written three books as far as I know,: a teenage/young adult horse story, a book of horsy cartoons and a non-fiction book about Fell ponies, although she has written many articles for native breed and driving magazines. She has lived in the Lake District, where she has farmed and made and repaired harness and saddlery, as well as judging Fell ponies and writing. Not to mention riding, driving, designing websites and lecturing!

SUMMARY: Older teenager's horse story set in the world of racing, as much about learning to cope with adult relationships as a pony story.
Sian leaves home to work in a racing stables but finds the job hard work and also is beset by emotional problems when she becomes involved with two very different men.
NB - this deals with some quite dark adult issues so is not suitable for younger children.

Against the Odds is reasonably easy to find through internet bookshops although is not often seen on internet auction sites. One Fell Swoop is harder to find but it has been republished by the author herself and is available to buy on her website (along with her other books)
